Eurobarometer is a series of multi-topic, pan-European surveys undertaken for the European Commission since 1970, covering attitudes towards European integration, policies, institutions, social conditions, health, culture, the economy, citizenship, security, information technology, the environment and other topics.

In summary, the survey data reported here came from three main sources: • An analysis of data from the 1997, 2000 and 2003 Eurobarometer surveys in the ‘old’ EU 15 Member States, which measured the attitudes of the Eurobarometer 127: 15- to 24-year-olds (2002) This Eurobarometer Flash survey was carried out between 27 May and 16 June 2002 on a representative sample of 7,558 young people. The main topics included the functioning of the European union, as well as young people's vision of Europe.

When possible, the methodology used was that of the Special Eurobarometer surveys carried out by Eurobarometer, a series of surveys initiated by the European Commission, the executive arm of what is now the European Union (EU), to measure public opinion in its member states. The Eurobarometer was created in 1973, when the European Parliament released a report requesting the establishment of a permanent research institute that would study European public opinion.

The standard Eurobarometer surveys are designed to provide a regular monitoring of the social and political attitudes among the European publics, to obtain regular readings of support for European integration, public awareness of and attitudes toward European unification, the institutions of the European Communities, as of 1992 the European Union, and its policies in complementary fashion.
